The module is enabled by a fast beamsteering<br \/>\nMEMS mirror with high optical power handling. In order<br \/>\nto produce and project bright white light, the module illuminates a<br \/>\nphosphor target with a high power laser of several Watts. A<br \/>\nprojection lens projects the phosphor target into a cone of light of<br \/>\nup to 60\u00b0. This light projection is arbitrarily shaped and<br \/>\ndynamically programmable by controlling a MEMS mirror scan<br \/>\nhead to address specific portions of the phosphor target. An<br \/>\nadjustable focus lens in the scan head further allows control of<br \/>\nprojected beam divergence. Successful prototypes were<br \/>\ndemonstrated with both a single 445nm laser diode source (2.5W<br \/>\nlaser power) and with a dual (combined) laser diode sources<br \/>\n(5.5W laser power).
